Rio Ferdinand Arrives In Lagos For Guinness Fan Tour
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has arrived Lagos Nigeria on a three-day visit from Thursday, November 29, to Sunday, December 2.

The ex-Red Devils defender is on an invitation from Guinness Nigeria to discover fans made of more that is to discover football talents.

 The former Champions League winner touched down at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja, Lagos and got a rousing welcome from fans.

The 40-year-old was well received by officials of Guinness Nigeria and the ex-Red devils center-back signed a couple of autographs on his arrival.

AWCON:Nigeria VS South Africa Showdown



Both Nigeria and South Africa have qualified for the France Women's World Cup 2019 by getting to the final of the Africa Women Cup of Nations.One more country will qualify by attaining the third place in the competition.

South Africa previously defeated Nigeria in the group stages of the competition 1 - 0 but the Super Falcons have won the competition 8 times and are not newcomers in the competition.The Super Falcons of Nigera defeated Cameroon 4 -2 on penalties in the Semis to reach the final,while the Bayana Bayana of South Africa got to Finals comfortably with a 2 - 0 over Mali.

The Third place match will take place between Cameroon and Mali on Tomorrow at 5:00PM

In the group stage,South Africa netted 9 times in the competition conceding just twice while the Super Falcons netted 10 times conceding once.This shows that both teams are solid in front of goal and also at the back.

Ola Aina could join Torino in January


Nigerian Defender Ola Aina who is currently on loan at Torino has shown impressive performances since joining them.Due to his displays since arriving in the summer,Torino are considering activating buy-option in his loan deal.He has featured for Torino 11 times and has scored once.

The buy-option which costs $9M is being considered by the Torino board.He spoke about his long-term desire to return to the Premier League but he is open to options where he gets playing time under Coach Walter Mazzarri.He moved to Torino on loan just after renewing his Chelsea contract until 2021.

Aina who has been with Chelsea for 11 years could be set to leave in January but his progress at Torin is being monitored by Chelsea's loan coach Eddie Newton.He is one of Chelsea's 40 players on loan
Brentford Defender Moses Odubajo to play for Nigeria
Brentford's Full back Moses Odubajo has been approached for a Nigeria call up and might take part in the Eagles campaign in the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

He had previously featured under Aidy Boothroyd for the England's youth team.He had played for England U20s but hasn't made a senior appearance.He made 5 appearances for England in the period.

Odubajo has battled back from two years of injury hell with a dislocated knee to rejoin Brentford this season and get regular games in the Championship.


And he will get rewarded with an international call-up after getting on the radar of Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr according to a report in British online news tabloid, the sun.co.uk.


Odubajo will be included in the squad for next year’s qualifier against Seychelles, with the finals to be held at the end of the season in Cameroon.
NFF:NPFL starting soon


The Nigerian Football Federation has assured Nigerian Football Fans that the Nigerian Professional Football League will commence soon.The League was disrupted by leadership crisis within the NFF.


The NFF Excecutive Commitee will soon approve the eventual final tables for the various leagues,including promotion and relegation of teams.The Congress praised the sponsors of the Nigeria Football Federation for their encouragement and used the medium to call on various organizations to partner Nigerian Football to boost the NPFL.


“ General Assembly expressed very deep appreciation to the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR in person and the Federal Government as a whole for the continued tremendous support for the activities, events and programs of the Nigeria Football Federation.”
National Sports Festival: Dalung meets Buhari, seeks N1.3bn






The Sports Minister Solomon Dalung met with President Muhammadu Buhari to seek his intervention in providing the N1.3 billion needed for hosting the National sports festival in Abuja next month.





The minister also appealed to the President to interface with the leadership of the National Assembly on the quick passage of the anti-doping bill which has been pending in the two chambers of the parliament to avoid the ban from the World Anti Doping Agency, WADA.

This World Anti Doping Agency,WADA had  previously threatened to ban Nigeria if she doesn't establish an independent Anti-Doping Agency.

He explained that the fate of the National Sports Festival which is scheduled to start on Dec 6 in Abuja hangs in balance as the private sector partner who was supposed to provide N400 million had backed out and so the government has to provide more money.He enjoined the government to act fast as this competition has not been held for the past six years.

He noted that the 21-day ultimatum issued by WADA to sanction Nigeria if she doesn't create an Independent Doping Agency would ground sports in Nigeria as no National Sports Association would be allowed to participate in Global Tournaments.

Super Falcons Thrash Guinea 6 - 0 To Qualify For AWCON Semi Final

The Defending Champions of the Africa Women Cup of Nations(AWCON),Nigeria have now qualified for the semis as they whipped Equatorial Guinea 6 - 0 to join South Africa,Mali and Cameroon.

Asisat Oshoala showed off her class as she scored an hattrick in the 12th,21st and 32nd minutes.Meanwhile Fransisca Ordega opened the scoring in the 8th minute.The fans were over joyed by the half time break with a 4 - 0 scoreline but the Falcons still wanted to put the icing on the cake.

Three minutes into the second half Desire Oparanozie added another goal before Rita Chikwelu finally closed the show in the 63rd minute.


Nigeria qualified from group B in second place with 6 points.South Africa in first place with 7 points.


The AWCON Semi Final fixtures are as follows:

Cameroon VS Nigeria

South Africa VS Mali

Both Matches are scheduled to take place on Tuesday.
